MY APPROACH
My approach to psychotherapy is both psychodynamic and relational-cultural. That means I view a thoughtful exploration of how past experiences inform one’s current life challenges, within an empathic and collaborative therapeutic relationship, can provide a powerful foundation for insight and change.
I believe people inhabit multiple identities that evolve and develop over the lifespan, and that those identities exist always within a social and cultural context. Thus, my perspective involves seeing any client’s particular struggles as informed not only by one’s individual story, but also by the often complex dynamics of one’s past and present social and cultural world. Developing a deeper understanding of those dynamics can often unlock problematic patterns in one's thoughts, self-concept, behavior, and relationships.
Often, I will integrate mindfulness and cognitive behavioral (CBT) techniques when warranted over the course of treatment.
